Wow! I had the pleasure of riding three full days on private rides organized and led by the B2B crew. The team picked great routes that perfectly matched the intensity I was looking for. In my case, I wanted an early season mini-camp at altitude to help get ready for the season. We climbed. We suffered (by choice)! And we did some easy aerobic work too.
On the fitness side, the results have been impressive. I am riding harder and faster than ever. I am leading climbs that crushed me last year and able to give gas in a whole new range of situations that are killing the strongest of my teammates. Fun!
On the travel side, there were delightful surprises around very corner on these B2B rides. I won’t ruin them for others, but I will say that the B2B team and the people we met along the way were so kind and gracious. Drivers were also very courteous. The food was amazing and off the beaten path by choice.
We rode in and around Tequila and learned a lot about the agave and the famous distilleries. The views were otherworldly in this unique landscape. The spring weather was also consistently perfect and a welcome change from the ups and downs of the States (and the trainer!).
These rides would be on the grand tours and mobbed with thousands of riders if they were in Europe. We had them all to ourselves, with little traffic except our support vehicle, which kept us full of food and water and helped with a flat.
The travel in and out of Guadalajara from the States was a piece of cake. While it wasn’t on our B2B itinerary, the recreation ride on the main streets of Guadalajara every Sunday was also a fantastic way to explore the city, acclimatize, work up a brunch appetite, and experience how civilized living in a city with a million plus cyclists can be.
B2B has definitely pioneered something special. These hidden gems should be on every cyclists’ life lists.
