Santa Rosa Dam Tour — Between History and Agave Landscapes 🚴♂️🌄
The journey begins in the Magical Town of Tequila, founded in 1530, world-renowned as the birthplace of Mexico’s most iconic spirit and surrounded by UNESCO-listed agave landscapes. From here, we ride toward Amatitán, established in the 16th century and home to some of the most important tequila houses, such as Sauza, which brought international fame to the region.
The route leads us to the Santa Rosa Dam, built in 1958 to supply water to the area and considered one of Jalisco’s major hydraulic projects. Here the first great challenge begins: a 15.3 km climb with +1,121 m of elevation gain, culminating at the Tequila Viewpoint. From this vantage point, the sweeping views of the blue-agave valley are simply majestic—transforming effort into pure reward.
After a well-deserved rest at the viewpoint, we return to the dam’s curtain to face the second climb of the day, which takes us to the historic train station of Amatitán, closing a stage that blends history, culture, and high-level cycling.
The Santa Rosa Dam Tour is an experience where every pedal stroke connects with tequila tradition, the grandeur of engineering, and the unique beauty of Jalisco.
