The queen stage of the Tequila Challenge: the toughest and most iconic route of the tour. It features the legendary La Yesca climb—25 km with +1,288 m of elevation gain, a sustained ascent through dramatic canyons that culminates in the historic town of La Yesca, founded by Jesuit missionaries in 1716.
We are proud to share that in February 2022, just one month after the route’s inauguration, we became the first cyclists in the world to complete this epic challenge.
La Yesca — Where Legends Are Made 🚴♂️ 👑
La Yesca is an open track for Expert level riders willing to challenge on a 132k, 4,224+ course and 5 mountain passes make up the route, the toughest ride in Tequila.
ᴛʜᴇ ǫᴜᴇᴇɴ ꜱᴛᴀɢᴇ ᴏꜰ ᴏᴜʀ ᴛᴏᴜʀꜱ
The queen stage of our tours: the route that best honors our motto, “the toughest cycling rides.” We begin in the Magical Town of Hostotipaquillo, in Jalisco’s Valles Region, a place with pre-Hispanic roots and a mining legacy linked to the old Nueva Galicia. From there, we descend to the monumental La Yesca Hydroelectric Dam, a mega-project on the Santiago River at the Jalisco–Nayarit border. At the time of its inauguration, its 208.5 m dam wall ranked among the tallest of its kind in the world, and it remains a key part of Mexico’s national power system.
From the dam begins the legendary La Yesca climb: 25 km with +1,288 m of elevation gain, a sustained challenge that rewards every pedal stroke with sweeping views of canyons and endless ridgelines. At the summit, we continue to the town of La Yesca, founded by Jesuit missionaries in 1716, where history and sporting achievement meet.

Just did my first ride with B2B. Wow! What a great experience. They made the logistics super easy: they picked an almost car-less road with AMAZING views, twists, and turns. And yes, hills! They kept the group small and fun. Everyone was very supportive and the energy was almost as good as the views! It was obvious from the start to the end that Tania, Hector, and my new riding buddies wanted me to have a good, safe time.
I would highly recommend joining one of B2Bs scheduled rides or reaching out to them to build out a custom camp or ride if you are near Guadalajara or Puerto Vallarta. We did the La Yesca ride, which shares some of the Tequila Gran Fondo course. It’s epic and should be on everyone’s life list!

With La Yesca I’ve now completed five of B2B’s six one-day rides (along with two of their Fall Clasics). This ride might be the toughest of all. It is literally up and down hill all day. And by hill, I mean mountain. There is almost no flat terrain. The road is in rough condition with potholes and scattered rocks from numerous landslides. But the upside is that there is nearly no traffic and the remote beauty of the landscape is amazing. B2B provided their legendary support. My advice, be careful, particularly on the descents, and just enjoy the ride!
